Adult retention and recognition

While our focus is the girls, Girlguiding Scotland also provides life-changing experiences for adults too!

Recognising their contribution

As members of a world-wide movement, all our volunteers have access to a wide range of opportunities ranging from international travel to training and skills development as well as guaranteed fun and friendship.

In return, they give their time to help deliver amazing experiences to an incredible 45,000 girls and young women across Scotland. Whether they give a little or lot of time and whether they are in unit-based roles or volunteering behind the scenes each and every one deserves to be recognised. Girlguiding and Girlguiding Scotland Awards are one way to recognise member contributions but there are lots of other ways too – check out some of the inspirational ideas below.

First 15 badge

From 15 meetings to 15+ years of service, we’re so thankful for all our volunteers who give their time to inspire and empower girls and young women across Scotland. This badge can be awarded to new volunteers when they complete their first 15 meetings – a great way to celebrate those who have not long started out on their Girlguiding Scotland volunteering journey! Let’s help more new volunteers feel appreciated and remind them of the impact they have on young members.

All volunteers should feel enthusiastic, valued and supported in their roles. That’s why we need to make sure we’re promoting all the opportunities that come with being an adult while also embedding a culture of thanks and recognition at every level of guiding. Making sure that that there’s flexibility is also key to retaining members as volunteering needs to fit around the unexpected challenges that life can throw up.
