Guides and Rangers dive in to our Ocean Challenge

Guides and Rangers from the Isle of Harris got the chance to explore the fascinating world of the sea when they took part in a two day beach clean-up as part of their Ocean Challenge Badge.

The girls travelled to the Isle of Lewis, where they took part in a clean-up of Reef Beach, as part of a two day effort made by local businesses and organisations.

After collecting a massive six skips full of rubbish, the girls celebrated with a BBQ on the beach. Delicious fresh fish was kindly donated by The Scottish Salmon Company, and the girls experimented with different sauces and flavourings.

Guide Catherine, 13, said: “My favourite part of the day was barbecuing the salmon on the beach, it was really tasty!”

The girls dived in and completed all the other activities needed for their badge; they searched around for seaweed near their guide hall and learned about echo-location used by sea mammals.
