Reach out to the people in your immediate circle. Be sure to let them know what you plan to use the money for to get them excited about supporting your unit. You might even want to consider running a fundraiser, like a bake sale, or a competition such as a quiz night.

Local businesses and shops can may be able to donate directly, provide non-monetary support like auction items or raffle prizes. Do you have any existing contacts in your local community? You may want to use LinkedIn to find interesting connections you may not have known you had.

Local clubs and trusts like Freemasons, Rotary Clubs, Inner Wheel, Lions and Round Table often make funds available to local charities. Get started by doing some online research to find out what is available in your area.

Tesco Community Grants

Tesco Community Grants helps to fund thousands of local projects across the country. Since 2016 the scheme has supported over 36,000 community groups with more than £85million in grants. The scheme aims to make a positive difference and help communities thrive as a result.

Tesco Community Grants is administered by Groundwork who are working with greenspace scotland to support successful projects in Scotland.

How does Tesco Community Grants work?

Tesco Community Grants is always open for applications from charities and community organisations to bid for up to £1,500. Three projects in 575 local communities are voted on by customers in Tesco stores throughout the UK, with projects changing every three months.

The Morrisons Foundation aims to improve the lives of people in the UK. Among the different funding they have available they offer grants towards projects undertaken by registered charities. If you’re seeking funds for a unit project you can apply over on their website now.

Morrisons may also be able to help with product donations. Give your local store a call and ask to speak to the Community Champion (every Morrisons supermarket has one in place to support local and smaller charity requests). Why not see if your local store can to provide a raffle prize, food or drink for fundraising events or even help out with a special camp. Their store locator may help you.

Asda

The Asda Foundation is committed to transforming communities and improving lives, and support over 10,000 local charities based within a mile of a store or depot.
