Roverway 2024

* Applications are now closed *

22 July – 1 August 2024 Norway

Are you ready for Roverway? This is a European event for Scouts and Guides, and we’re recruiting for members who are interested in being part of this exciting adventure!

*Please read this page carefully as it will help you with your application*

We have been informed that we can extend the age range for Roverway applicants by a year, so your birth date should now fall between 1 August 2001 and 22 July 2008 (inclusive).

Roverway 2024 will take place in Norway from 22 July to 1 August 2024. The theme for the jamboree is ‘North of the Ordinary’.

The jamboree is divided into two parts. During the first days, the participants will gather in smaller groups and get the opportunity to explore a self-chosen path. The paths will run throughout southern Norway and end in a joint jamboree in the Stavanger area.

Are you between 16 and 22 years old in 2024?

Apply now for your chance to represent Girlguiding Scotland at Roverway 2024!

To attend Roverway as a participant you need to be born between 1 August 2001 and 22 July 2008.

Roverway participants will be split into groups of 8 called patrols, and each patrol will have a patrol leader. The patrol leader is responsible for leading their patrol through their expedition with support from the international service team. Patrol leaders will play a key role in ensuring everyone has an enjoyable and safe event.

Under 18s are able to apply to be part of Roverway 2024, however, we will need to match them with adult leaders (still within the age bracket above) who have or would be willing to complete the going away with qualification (including the Ranger module) before Roverway and work towards the international module.

Born after 22 July 2008?

Unfortunately, you are too young to participate in Roverway 2024. The age limit is set by the organisers, and we cannot make exceptions. Keep your eyes open for future opportunities!

Are you over 22 years old in 2024?

Born before 1 August 2001? You can join as an international service team (IST) member! Girlguiding are recruiting IST members and you need to apply by 1 July 2023.

Cost

Roverway 2024 will cost £995, not including your travel to Norway, or participation in the briefing weekends. There will be a contribution from Girlguiding Scotland, but most of the cost will sit with you.

There will be a bursary scheme for low-income families, organised by Girlguiding, and we will assist with fundraising ideas and support.

You will also be required to provide your own equipment (tents, sleeping bag, rucksack, etc.) for Roverway.

Commitment

Roverway includes a 5-day expedition across Norway. It will require a lot of physical effort and you will need to be confident that you are fit enough for this challenge. As well as hiking, you will be camping, preparing your own food, and dealing with every type of weather Norway can throw at you!

We will be holding some online group sessions to get to know everyone a little better. You must attend one of these sessions or your application will not be considered:

  • Session 1 – Monday, 12 June from 6 – 7pm
  • Session 2 – Thursday, 15 June from 7 – 8pm
  • Session 3 – Sunday, 18 June from 11am – 12pm

As well as the Roverway event (22 July – 1 August 2024), there are UK contingent briefing events which you would be expected to attend, and these could be held anywhere in the UK:

  • 15 – 17 September 2023
  • 26 – 28 January 2024 (patrol leaders only)
  • April 2024

Are you undertaking a DofE award?

If so, great! You can use parts of Roverway to sign off your award.

How to apply

To apply, please complete the Roverway application form by midnight on Wednesday, 7 June 2023.

As well as your application, we will need a reference from someone in Girlguiding who knows you well. For under 18s, this should be your unit leader. For over 18s, ideally this should be another leader in your unit, but it could be anyone in Girlguiding who knows you well.

Please make sure your referee has completed the reference form by midnight on Wednesday, 14 June 2023. If we do not have a reference for you, your application will not be considered.

*Applications are now closed*

We will be in touch with consent forms for those under 18 and details on how to join the group sessions in due course.
