Joining Guiding Grants

Thanks to generous funding from the Gannochy Trust, we’re able to launch a new strand of funding to support new and existing units to welcome more young members.

*This fund has now closed to new applications*

The fund aims to remove financial barriers which may prevent units from creating additional spaces for girls in areas of high demand.

Gannochy Trust Joining Guiding Grants will offer up to £500 for costs associated with bringing young members into guiding for the first time. New and existing units offering opportunities in any of the following ways can apply for support to help them move girls off waiting lists:

  • Face to face unit meetings
  • Outdoor meetings
  • Online meetings or activities
  • Remote/ postal activities
  • Holiday guiding
  • Blended approaches

Joining Guiding Grants can be used to cover start up costs which cannot be met by CashBack. Guide and Ranger units should check whether they are eligible for Cashback funding before applying

Examples of costs which could be met with a Joining Guiding Grant include:

  • Recruitment activities for adults or girls
  • Training costs to support adults in their roles & allow more girls to join
  • Holiday guiding projects or taster sessions for girls
  • Uniform or subscriptions for disadvantaged girls
  • Programme materials
  • Equipment
  • Printing and posting materials to girls who cannot meet in person
  • IT subscriptions or basic IT equipment where this is a barrier to participation

When completing your application, please keep in mind that the funding is intended to support units to meet costs associated with creating extra spaces in areas of high demand. The maximum award of £500 is only likely to be made where several spaces are being created or a new unit is opening unless a strong case for support is made in section 3. Units can apply up to 3 months before their unit holds its first meeting.
