Peer educators are role models for thousands of girls around the UK. If you’re aged 14-25, you can help Brownies, Guides and Rangers (and even young people outside Girlguiding) explore important topics like mental wellbeing, safety and gender stereotypes. You’ll run fun activities which have been developed in partnership with girls and experts. And as a young person, you’ll use your own experience to bring subjects to life. You can find out more about peer education here.
During the basic training weekend you will learn about Girlguiding’s peer education programme. You will train as a peer educator in a hands-on way, exploring the skills and methods used in peer education through different activities. As well as getting practical tools such as ideas for games and activities, you will receive information on training topics and, most importantly, how to get peer education up and running in your area. The training is all undertaken in one weekend after which, if you meet the minimum training standard, you will be able to run sessions. Peer education training does not come with a guaranteed pass. The minimum standard is there to make sure you can run sessions safely, protecting both yourself and the girls you are running the session for, so it’s important that you take the training seriously.
Free – as well as your training, you will be provided with meals and indoor accommodation for the duration of the event, we will cover travel expenses and will even order you a peer education t-shirt after you have completed your training!
Although the training is free, there is an expectation that you will take what you have learned back to your county and deliver sessions for your peers.
If you are interested in training in a new topic, you need to have delivered 4 peer education sessions. Once you have done that, you can get in touch with rachel@girlguiding-scot.org.uk to ask if there is space to attend the topic training on the Sunday.
Complete our booking form below and we’ll be in touch with more details soon.
