Who’s your #WOWwoman?
We’re launching an exciting new campaign – WOWwoman – to celebrate inspiring role models and empower a new generation of girls and young women to aim high.
What is WOWwoman?
Girlguiding Scotland’s new campaign is asking all our young members to share who makes them say ‘WOW’!
We have created an action-packed WOWwoman toolkit with activities to help your unit explore what it means to be a role model, how they can take the lead, and who inspires them.
Why are we launching WOWwoman?
New research from Girlguiding shows that less than half of girls and young women ages 11 – 16 feel inspired by a role model often or most of the time, while for 17-21 year-olds this figure drops to just 40%.
Research also highlights girls concerns’ about gender inequality. Just 35 per cent of girls and young women aged 17-21 believe that men and women have the same chance of succeeding in their careers while only 60 per cent of girls aged 11-16 hope to be leaders in their in their chosen job.
By celebrating WOW women from all backgrounds and walks of life, we want to inspire the next generation of girls and young women to aim high.
What are people saying about WOWwoman?
WOWwoman has the backing of inspiring figures including First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, Former Formula One driver Susie Wolff, and Scottish Women’s Football Captain Gemma Fay.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says: “I am delighted to be named a Girlguiding Scotland WOW woman. It’s so important that girls and young women are able to see positive role models around them. That’s how they are inspired to become the leaders, scientists and Olympians of the future.”
Former Formula One driver, Susie Wolff says: “I know how important a role model can be in empowering girls and young women to aim high, discover new talents and take the lead. Sometimes you have to see it to believe it.
How can I get involved?
