We’re delighted to announce that Elaine Rough has been appointed the next Scottish Chief Commissioner! She’ll start her term in September 2022.

22.04.22

Here’s what Elaine had to say about her appointment:

What an exciting time to be appointed as Chief Commissioner for Scotland. I am excited to be taking the lead and working with the staff and senior volunteer team as we look forward to providing opportunities and experiences for our young members, while continuing to support our amazing and committed volunteers.

Elaine hails from the North East of Scotland near the village of Insch where she lives with her family. She’s a Finance and Admin Co-ordinator for a local charity called Advocacy North East which supports and gives a voice to vulnerable adults.

She started off as a Brownie and then Guide before becoming a leader in her early 20s. Over the years she has taken on the role of outdoor activities and camp adviser and Assistant County Commissioner in Gordon before becoming County Commissioner for the area, which is Elaine’s current role.

Elaine is also a leader with 1st Insch Guides, 1st Insch Rangers and a member of our Business Management and Finance committee. Here she shares a little more about her passion for Girlguiding Scotland:

Helping girls to experience adventure and giving them the freedom to grow, have fun and develop important life skills, that’s my happy place.

When she’s not busy with Girlguiding duties, Elaine has two very active spaniels to look after and she loves gardening, walking, cooking and baking!

We’ll be sharing more about Elaine in September when she starts her role.
