Meet Leah, our volunteer recruitment officer

21.08.25

Say hi to Leah and find out more about her role within our Volunteer Recruitment Project.

What is the Volunteer Recruitment Project and what is your role within it?

48% of our volunteers who completed the unit recruitment needs survey said they urgently need volunteers. The volunteer recruitment project will focus on recruiting and welcoming new volunteers to address this need.

As a volunteer recruitment officer, my role will be to work in partnership with volunteers from various districts/divisions across Scotland to develop a tailored recruitment plan and make the welcome for new volunteers even better. My role also includes collaborating with external organisations that can help us identify potential volunteers and create new resources for our volunteers.

What made you apply for the volunteer recruitment officer role?

In my previous role at a small charity, I really enjoyed working with volunteers, as well as with interns and placement students. When my last organisation closed, I had to leave this work behind so I was delighted to find an opportunity to work with volunteers again.

What have you been getting up to since you started?

I’ve been spending time getting to know the team and learning everything I can about guiding! This has included visiting a few units to learn more about what they get up. As a team we’ve also been reviewing existing resources, updating our Getting Started With welcome sessions for new volunteers and analysing the recruitment survey replies to develop our plan for engaging with volunteers.

What’s your favourite thing about your new role so far?

Although I have only met a small number of volunteers so far, I have loved meeting and getting to know them. They are all so passionate and enthusiastic about ensuring girls have a safe and fun environment. I’m really looking forward to meeting more.

What are you most excited about getting to do?

I love that we have lots of ways to connect with volunteers all across Scotland and I can’t wait to share what we’re getting up to. I’m excited that we can be creative in how we do this. I also love meeting new people so I’m excited to meet lots of different volunteers across the country.

Where can people follow what you are getting up to and find updates on the project?
