What is the Volunteer Recruitment Project and what is your role within it?

The Volunteer Recruitment Project aims to get more people volunteering with Girlguiding across Scotland.

As a recruitment officer, I’ll be supporting districts and divisions to create tailored recruitment plans. These plans will be specific to the needs and opportunities within each area. Once the plan is in place, I’ll help bring it to life by supporting volunteers with in-person and online recruitment and welcome activities. This will include making connections between local guiding and other organisations that could help us reach potential volunteers.

What made you apply for the volunteer recruitment officer role?

I’ve always worked in person-facing roles, and I really enjoy meeting new people, so this role excited me as I’ll be able to travel across Scotland to meet with districts and divisions! I love how varied the role is and am passionate about the positive impact guiding has on girls and young women. As a leader myself, I’m thrilled to be part of the team supporting our volunteers.  

What have you been getting up to since you started?

We’ve been doing a lot of preparation for working with areas, reviewing our website, creating new resources, and analysing the data from our unit needs survey.  

I’ve spoken to lots of volunteer centres across the whole of Scotland about how we can work together to support recruitment in local areas and even met with our first division which has been very exciting!  

What’s your favourite thing about your new role so far?

How passionate the team is! Everyone I’ve met so far has been really positive about the project, and eager to get stuck in. It’s amazing to be part of the team getting it started.  

What are you most excited about getting to do?

I’m looking forward to meeting with districts and divisions to develop our plans!
