Barbara is one of six regional representatives who sit on our Scottish Executive, representing the Southwest region.
She has a wealth of experience in guiding which started as a Brownie, moving on to running her own units in her County, and then in Hong Kong and Germany as she travelled with her husband who was in the army. After a break in guiding, Barbara returned to the UK and took up her most recent post as County Commissioner in Stewartry.
Guiding taught Barbara to think of others and that’s exactly what she would do so that all the girls could join the fun of Guide camp. Barbara would fundraise by holding local concerts so that money wouldn’t be an issue for girls attending camp.
Guiding has helped me to succeed
“Guiding has given me the confidence to get on life – as it helped me develop from a shy child into a young confident adult. When applying for a first job, I added guiding on to my CV and I’m sure it’s helped me to succeed in my careers.”
Out of guiding Barbara enjoys painting and travelling to new places.
