Chief Executive

Denise Spence

Denise is responsible for delivering Girlguiding Scotland’s strategy and managing our staff and finances. She works closely with the Scottish Chief Commissioner to ensure Girlguiding Scotland provides the best possible support for our members.

Denise began her career in Girlguiding at the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts before spending ten years as Chief Executive of Girlguiding in London. After moving north in 2012, she got the opportunity to take the helm at Girlguiding Scotland in 2013.

In her spare time Denise volunteers as a Girlguiding Scotland trainer, helping teach volunteers new skills and has run units for The Senior Section, Rainbows and Guides. She also enjoys hiking – but with only two Munros bagged so far she has a long way to go!

She is currently a volunteer consultant with the Cranfield Trust and sits on the Board of Youthlink.

Guiding changes lives

Denise says:

“Seeing the dedication of our amazing staff and volunteers changing lives gives me a real kick.

I recently spoke to a young woman from Girlguiding Gordon who was inspired to set up her own successful floristry business after trying it out through Girlguiding.

That’s the sort of thing I come into work for!”
