Growing guiding in Lanarkshire with Youth United

Girlguiding Scotland has taken part in Youth United’s Uniform Youth in Social Action Fund (UYSAF) project. The project allowed us to create new places for girls and volunteers in targeted communities in Scotland.

Scotland was one of the nine Girlguiding regions taking part in this project in the UK, and focused on encouraging membership in our three Lanarkshire Counties.

Alison Miller, Development Worker for Girlguiding Scotland, says:

“It has been a pleasure working with the volunteer teams in each of the Lanarkshire Counties to ensure that more girls can join the fun and adventure of guiding.

“Funding from Youth United UYSAF combined with the dedication of local volunteers has helped 165 girls and young women to join Rainbow, Brownie, Guide and Senior Section units.

“This support has made it possible for Girlguiding Scotland to open seven new units, re-open two closed units and help five units at risk of closure to grow their membership and add new and exciting activities and opportunities to their programmes.

“I am excited to see guiding continue to develop and expand in Lanarkshire in the years to come.”
