Volunteer Linda shares her new programme journey

Whether you’ve already started navigating your way through the new programme or you’re keen to start soon, your unit’s in for an amazing journey. From having adventures to taking action, there’s something for every girl to get excited about.

We caught up with 1st Peebles Brownie volunteer Linda to find out more about her new programme journey so far.

I’ve been a member for over 20 years so when I first heard there was going to be a new programme I was unsure of what to expect. However, after reading more about the changes on Girlguiding’s website and finding out there’s e-learning training available, I knew it was going to be fine.

Here are my top tips for getting to grips with what’s new.

  1. After introducing the girls to all the new themes, interest badges, skills builders and unit meeting activities they took ownership of planning what they wanted to explore. We then encouraged girls to make posters of what they’d learned which they presented to their parents. This was a great way to see how much information they’d taken in.
  1. Set time aside to do the e-learning training modules as soon as possible. They’re really helpful.
  2. Work together with your volunteer team to plan out how you’re going to tackle the skills builders together. Share the workload.

Our girls know we’re learning along with them and might get things wrong sometimes which they find funny. This helps remind them that it’s okay to make mistakes.
