Lorraine Kelly challenges Girlguiding Scotland members to ceilidh for a good cause
TV presenter and former Girlguiding Scotland member Lorraine Kelly is challenging guiding units to cut a caper and raise money for children in poverty.
The star will travel all over Scotland from 11 to 12 September 2015 visiting as many fundraising ceilidhs as possible for this year’s STV Children’s Appeal.
She’s calling on Rainbow, Brownie, Guide and Senior Section units to stage their own ceilidh at the same time, or any time up until the close of the appeal on 16 October 2015, to help the 1 in 5 Scottish children affected by poverty.
Lorraine, who is trustee of the STV Children’s Appeal, said:
“I’m delighted Girlguiding Scotland will be getting behind the STV Children’s Appeal this year and helping to raise funds and awareness for such an important cause.
“Each year I take on a fun and active challenge in aid of the appeal and this year’s 24-hour ceilidh challenge will be no exception!
“It will be great to see Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and members of The Senior Section from across the country taking to the dance floor and having lots of fun while raising funds to help children affected by poverty across Scotland.”
There are loads of resources available to help, from free music to videos showing how to do the steps – contact STV on the details below for the full lowdown. And if there’s a bigger ceilidh happening near you that you could join, the STV Appeal team will tell you about it when you call up to register.
Units who film their event could be in with a chance of getting featured on television during a week of programmes about the appeal in mid-October.
And if the ceilidh challenge inspires your girls to do more dancing, why not use it as a springboard to tackle our Scottish country dance challenge badge?
If your unit or County is interested in taking part in Lorraine’s ceilidh challenge please contact Ami Anderson at STV on firstname.lastname@example.org or 0141 300 3729 – please remember to cc Girlguiding Scotland using email@example.com or tag us on social media so we get to find out how many amazing guiding groups are taking part!
In its first four years the STV Children’s Appeal has raised more than £8.2 million to help children affected by poverty. The money has been used to make 297 donations of varying sizes to projects across all 32 local authority areas in Scotland, providing support to more than 37,000 children.
