Supporting more girls and young women

Guiding offers amazing, life-changing opportunities that help girls and young women build confidence, reach their potential and make a positive difference to their community and the world.

That’s why we want to change the lives of even more girls by giving them the chance to join us.

Improving access to guiding is central to our strategy

Our adult members are crucial to growing and developing our membership. Being part of guiding as an adult is about more than volunteering. Adult members, like our young members, are part of a world-wide movement that guarantees fun and friendship as well as offering access to life-changing opportunities from international travel to CV-transforming, training and skills development. By helping new and existing adult members access these benefits, we’ll also increase our impact on the lives of girls and young women across Scotland.

Growing our membership relies on getting lots of things right in the same place, at the same time. It will take time and lots of team-work! Having a shared vision of what we want our membership to look like and a step by step plan to deliver that vision will maximise our chances of success. There are different routes to growing and developing our membership.

Where to start

It is important to take this work step by step. Build up and strengthen guiding in your area, before moving on to projects aimed at retaining existing members and reaching out to new ones.

Our Getting Ready for Growth Resource Bank can help you find the best starting point for your area, and has tools to help you track your membership and create a growth plan.

Fresh Start Challenge

Every new term is a fresh start! This challenge is for current Girlguiding Scotland volunteers to help you share how amazing guiding is, encourage more members to join and give everyone a great guiding welcome.
