Kayla shows her colours to tackle children’s liver disease

Kayla, of the 6th Clydebank Brownies, is calling on Girlguiding Scotland members across the country to take action and wear yellow.

Kayla, age 8, is proving that you’re never too young to make a difference and help others with her campaign to raise money and awareness for the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation.

After being diagnosed with liver disease in 2015 Kayla has continued to be an active and enthusiastic member of her local Brownie unit and even finds the time to raise money to help other children in need.

Now she’s hoping Rainbows, Brownies, Guides & Senior Section units across the country will get involved. While Big Yellow Friday takes place on March 3 units can join in the fun on a day that suits them.

Kayla says:

“I love being a Brownie because I get to play with friends, do fun things and go on trips. We’ve been to a farm and a water park and this year we’re going on our first camp. I can’t wait!

My Brownie unit helped me raise money to help other kids with liver disease last year and this year we want to see if we can get girls all over Scotland to help us too.

It’s really easy – all you have to do is wear yellow. Even if your unit doesn’t meet on Big Yellow Friday – you can do it any day of the week. You can even have a whole yellow-themed party – with yellow cakes and snacks and party games!

Raising money is really important to me because I know there are lots of kids out there with liver disease – not just me – and I want to help them too.”

Lesley, Kayla’s Brownie Leader, added:

“Last year our Brownies themed our whole Brownie night round the colour Yellow – we decorated the hall with yellow bunting, played yellow-themed games, iced cakes in yellow and added yellow accessories to our already yellow uniform to help raise money for the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation and this year we’ve got another fun-filled yellow themed evening planned. We’re going to be holding a Zumba, again dressing all in yellow.

“Kayla’s determination and passion is really inspiring – to all the Brownies and her Leaders too – and all the girls have got behind her Big Yellow Friday campaign. It just goes to show you’re never too young to make a difference!”

How can our unit get involved?

Big Yellow Friday is UK-wide fundraiser organised by the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation, who have loads of free resources and ideas to help your unit get involved. You can donate to the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation via Kayla’s fundraising page here.
