Jess Glynne, Louisa Johnson and Pixie Lott were among the acts joining Girlguiding Scotland members for one of the biggest celebrations of girl power Scotland has ever seen.

More than 8,000 Girlguiding Scotland members age 10 and up took over The SSE Hydro for an exclusive pop concert to enjoy some amazing live acts and celebrate girl power.

The star-studded line-up included Jess Glynne, Louisa Johnson, Pixie Lott, John Newman, JP Cooper, Birdy, Five After Midnight and host Cel Spellman.

As well as enjoying live performances of some of the biggest hits of the summer artists shared who inspires them with Girlguiding Scotland’s junior reporters.

Jess Glynne said: “I am so excited to be part of Girlguiding Scotland’s biggest ever pop concert, celebrating being a strong woman. It was so inspiring to see so many girls coming together to sing, dance and have fun.

“Girlguiding Scotland is all about inspiring girls to aim high and be bold and I’m really proud to be involved in it. My advice to all the girls out there is to not let worrying about what other people think stop you from being yourself and doing what you love! My own experience has taught me you need a thick skin, but if you work hard and believe in yourself, no one can take that away from you.”

Pixie Lott added: “I loved being part of TARTAN GIG- Girlguiding Scotland’s biggest ever pop concert. As a former Brownie, I’m really proud to be part of this unique event. From playing games to camping, I loved my time as a Brownie and it’s brilliant to see Girlguiding Scotland is still giving girls a space to be themselves, have fun and reach for the stars. Today really felt like a fantastic day for girl power.”

Louisa Johnson added: “I’m really proud to be part of TARTAN GIG and to be celebrating girl power. I love performing live and it felt brilliant to see so many girls singing and dancing along.  And I’m really proud to be supporting an organisation that’s all about empowering girls and young women to be bold and take the lead.”

Caitlyn Ogg, 15 of the Turiff Guides, was one of the lucky young members chosen to interview the stars live on the big day. She said: “TARTAN GIG was such an amazing experience. I loved seeing some of my favourite acts performing and even getting to interview them and ask them all my burning questions.

“I love being a member of Girlguiding Scotland because you get so many amazing opportunities that you might never get to try otherwise – like seeing a massive pop concert with all your friends.

Sue Walker, Girlguiding Scotland’s Lead Volunteer adds: “At Girlguiding Scotland we’re all about offering girls amazing experiences in a safe girl-only space and what could be more unforgettable that going to your first gig with all your friends? TARTAN GIG is just one example of how Girlguiding Scotland is moving with the times and responding to what girls want without losing what makes us unique.”

“From sleeping out under the stars for the first time, to gaining badges in everything from music and culture to science and survival skills, and learning how to use their voice and be a force for good – we’re helping 50,000 girls all over Scotland to enjoy amazing experiences, just like today.”

TARTAN GIG is just one the many opportunities Girlguiding Scotland, the leading charity for girls and young women in Scotland offer its 50,000 young members to enjoy new experiences, learn new skills, use their voice and have fun.

The charity offers all girls aged 5 to 25 the chance to take part in a wide and varied programme, encompassing everything from outdoor adventure to social action, campaigning to international travel, arts, science, sports and international travel.
