What is peer education?

Let’s give girls a safe space to talk about what’s important to them.

Thursday 5 June, 7.30-8.30pm Zoom

Peer educators are role models for thousands of girls around the UK.  Aged 14-25, they can help young people explore important topics. They run fun activities which have been developed in partnership with girls and experts, and use their own experience as a young person to bring subjects to life.

Why does this matter to leaders?

Peer educators visit unit meetings to deliver sessions on things girls have told us they want to explore. They create a safe space for girls to discuss subjects like building resilience, challenging gender stereotypes or making a stand for safety. And they run activities which give girls tools to support them through the rest of their lives.

Could you support peer education?

There are lots of ways to support the peer education programme:

  • Leaders can encourage girls they know who would make great peer educators to attend our all expenses paid training
  • You can also request a peer educator come and visit your unit to run a session with your girls
  • If you are keen to support more girls through peer education, you could become a county peer educator coordinator
  • Commissioners can promote peer education in their area, either to get new girls signed up to become peer educators, or to make sure units know they can request a session with a peer educator
  • Counties can even appoint a peer education coordinator to support the peer educators in their area
