The Scottish Senior Section Spectacular is go!
A truly spectacular programme of events, challenges and activities to help members celebrate 100 years of The Senior Section during 2016 has been launched today (Monday 14 September 2015) by Girlguiding Scotland.
Morna Macdonald, Girlguiding Scotland’s volunteer Senior Section Spectacular coordinator, said:
“We’ve got a brilliant programme of Scottish events, challenges and fun – and there’s something for everyone whether you’re into walking, travel overseas, tea parties or exploring history.
“But it’s guiding Counties that will really bring these celebrations to life – so make your Senior Section feel really special by hosting a centenary event, taking on the challenge badge, putting on an archives display or organising a big walk.
“The great thing is that anyone can take part – from our youngest Rainbow to the oldest member of the Trefoil Guild!”
There is a range of exciting ways to celebrate the centenary:
Work towards this specially-created challenge badge, which has something for every section from drinking tea while star gazing to holding a tea-themed spa day.
Get out and enjoy the great outdoors with this fantastic outdoors challenge. Whether you’re a keen hiker or a walking novice, there’s a fun way to take part. Enjoy a stroll in your local area, get your boots on and help us walk the whole of Scotland’s National Trail or – if you’re fit enough – take part in a mountain challenge event.
A spectacular challenge for geocaching enthusiasts will be launched soon – watch this space!
Hire a mascot to share the fun!
Scottish Spectacular mascots Peedie the puffin, Angus the Highland Cow and McRuffRuff the Scottie Dog can’t wait to join in the fun – so why not book them for your Spectacular activity? Share a picture on social media or by emailing email@example.com.
Delve into the section’s history
From interviewing former Rangers for a podcast to trying out recipes from old Senior Section magazines, Girlguiding Fife’s Kate Davidson has created a spectacular archives pack to inspire you to explore 100 fascinating years.
The Scottish archives also have two complete sets of Ranger uniforms available to hire. To book, please contact the archives team at least two weeks in advance. The uniforms can collected for free, or posted out for a charge, from the Glasgow Guide shop.
A series of posters about the history of the section’s uniform will be launched in the autumn – keep an eye on our website for details.
