Polaris

What is Polaris?

Polaris is the Scottish Senior Section group that allows your voice to be heard at national level. It is also an opportunity to meet other Senior Section members from across Scotland and have fun.

Who can come?

Any Senior Section members of Girlguiding Scotland aged 16-25 can come – Ranger, Young Leader, Guider...

What do we do?

We meet up in different locations throughout Scotland, twice a year – a day event in spring and a weekend residential event in autumn. We participate in workshops, meet up with old friends (and hopefully make new ones!), try out new activities and generally have fun.

Do I have to 'join' Polaris?

No, just come along to any of our events!

How much does it cost?

Polaris receives an annual budget from Guiding Development. The day event is free with travel expenses reimbursed. The weekend event costs participants approximately £50 – varies slightly for each event, but travel expenses will be reimbursed, subject to our budget.

Can I use Polaris for my Queen’s Guide Award?

Polaris residential weekends can be used to complete the ‘Residential experience’ element of the award, if the participant is present and participates fully for the entire event.

With regards to Element 4 “Participate in a working group or committee run by Girlguiding UK..”, attendance at a Polaris weekend, where we only run consultation for about 2 hours is not enough to satisfy this. This element could be signed if the participant was elected onto our committee and fully participated for a minimum 12months.

Who are the planning team?

8 senior section members are elected annually to serve on the planning team. They organise events and represent Scottish senior section members on various national committees.
