Marketing & Communications Department

The Marketing & Communications Department of Girlguiding Scotland is responsible for publications including the Annual Report and Blueprint newsletter, annual events, Ambassadors network and the Girlguiding Scotland website.

Blueprint is issued four times per annum to 10,000 members across Scotland. It recently underwent a successful redesign process moving to A5 format. It aims to keep members updated on news, events, activities and achievements. An annual evaluation is undertaken to influence its future growth and direction.

The Marketing & Communications Assistant will work closely with staff and volunteers across the organisation to identify and gather content for Blueprint. Alongside the Marketing & Communications Manager, they will liaise with the appointed print and design company to ensure timely delivery, and contribute to the editing process.

They will also support Girlguiding Scotland’s network of Public Relations Advisers and external Ambassadors. The role involves assisting in the day-to-day running of the department and contributing to a programme of varied events.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone interested in a career in communications or/and gaining some experience working in a PR and marketing department.

Key Duties

  • General administration and organisational duties, supporting the Manager
  • Assist with the production of the members’ newsletter, Blueprint, and liaise with its advertisers, designers and printer
  • Contribute to the editorial process of key publications including Blueprint and the Annual Report
  • Support Girlguiding Scotland’s network of voluntary Public Relations Advisers based across Scotland
  • Provide administrative support to external supporters involved in the Ambassadors scheme
  • Co-ordinate and instigate improvements to the department’s photo library and archive
  • Contribute to planning of events, and attend as necessary
  • Occasional evening and weekend work

Person Specification

Essential

  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Willingness to get involved in a wide range of activities to support the work of the department
  • Competent with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative with a good attention to detail
  • Good team member
  • Ability to be creative
  • Interested in communications and design

Desirable

  • Experience of or interest in working in a marketing/PR/communications environment
  • Knowledge of html and Illustrator or Photoshop would be an advantage

Terms and conditions

Contract:              Part-time Permanent  
Salary:             £4290 pro rata (£5.89 per hour)
Hours:             14 hours per week (Monday & Wednesday or days as agreed)
