Talking Talent

JK RowlingOver the past year, the MarCom department have been interviewing the most inspirational, talented and successful women in the country. Finally, over 100 interviews from women including JK Rowling and Lulu are now online.

The aim of the project was to inspire girls across Scotland, help raise our profile, and show, in some cases, how Guiding had had a positive impact on many well respected Scottish women.

Carrie Blake – Marketing and Communications Manager said:
We are absolutely thrilled and very grateful that some of the most successful women in Scotland were willing to give their time to be interviewed for girls in Scotland. It is also a celebration of the diverse range of female talent that comes out of Scotland and is incredibly fascinating to see their views on so many subjects.

The questions range on subjects including their advice to young women, their approach to life, their careers, being Scottish and in many cases their thoughts about Guiding.

JK Rowling - “I can easily imagine Hermione in the Guides, given that she's resourceful, highly motivated and eager to learn. She might be a little over-competitive when it came to interest badges, though”.

Barbara Dickson – “I do think it's good that Guiding is just for girls. I'm a huge believer in the sexes developing their own interests. I don't want to be part of many things which men do! The ethos of Guiding is a maturing influence on young girls at a vital stage of their lives.”

Kirsty Wark - "I loved the Guide camp at Lendalfoot for the camaraderie and communal cooking - despite the midges and hot chocolate made with water."

There is advice from women from all walks of life including musicians, athletes, presenters and even a High Court Judge! There is also an opportunity for readers to review the interviews, the best of which will appear on the website for everyone to see. Previously the site has about 10,000 visitors a month - and now has over 30,000!
