MusicMusic

Music was the chosen subject for the first year of Girlguiding UK's Arts strategy. Music is the ideal tool to express emotions often not able to be expressed verbally. It allows girls to lose their inhibitions and use teamwork, through action songs and games. It is a great stress buster and is a time for acceptable noise levels to rise! There is music for every occasion, and events to take on a special level of togetherness and memory.

The year's BIG GIG in Wembley exceeded all expectations with its amazing line-up of top chart acts. Scottish girls from all over Scotland were a part of the 11,000 crowd who enjoyed watching bands such as Blue, Busted and their fellow Scot, Darius.

MusicSingOut was a resounding success in Dunblane in the summer. Thirty participants from all over the UK took part in the event, which gave them the chance to explore a variety of voice music, new songs and musical activities. The culmination of the week was a memorable display of talent at the "Fascinating Rhythm" concert.

The Scout & Guide Symphony Orchestra annual course was held in August. It is open to Guides and Scouts from all over the UK who play orchestral instruments and culminated in two concerts including one at St. George's chapel at Windsor Castle. As well as the orchestral work, the course included activities such as watersports, archery, quiz night and a beetle drive.

"SingOut was great, It gave me the chance to combine two things I love, singing and Guiding; it was fantastic. A week I will remember forever!"
Jane aged 14, Guide from Forth Valley.

"The Symphony Orchestra was such fantastic fun. People arrive, knowing no one, but soon find that everyone is their friend."
