GeologyGeology

On a crisp, sunny, autumn morning, ten
Guides, three Guide leaders and four experts walked, crawled and got really close to the rocks that make the shore at Barns Ness near Dunbar. Different types of rock were identified, many fossils seen and the story of how this land had
travelled through millions of years unfolded through investigation and the help of our geologist experts. The girls had to really look to find the clues and the remains of the fossils. The girls recreated their visit in the form of a brochure to provide the wider community with this geological knowledge that they had gained. The whole project
incorporated the key skills of communication, problem solving and working with others.

"I enjoyed being shown around by the Geologists because they showed me stuff I never knew about. I learnt that stones could be much more than just stones- like they can have fossils. It surprised me that coal was found on the beach."
