Environmental Work
Brownies in East Lothian chose Binning Wood, and Aberlady Bay to do some environmental work. As part of the John Muir Award they completed four sections: discover a wild place, explore its wildness, help to conserve it, and share their experience with others. They carried out the work over a number of hours and held open evenings to tell others about their work.
Environmental work helps the girls learn to work as a team, to show commitment to a long-term project and to appreciate their surroundings.
"I like tidying the countryside up and making it nice for people to look at. The bags were heavy when they were full of things people had thrown away. I now know what happens to all the different kinds of rubbish and am glad that some of it, like glass, can be used again and again to save money when making these things again or making something new."
