I rate this interview as***** (inspirational, excellent)
"This interview made me think more about the broadening career opportunities which are open to women in the twenty first century. Hearing about Joanne's experiences in the teaching profession, and how much she enjoyed it, helps to illuminate her chosen career change, and in addition reflects the immense interest her work as a novelist has generated.
JK Rowling states that Guides should be "resourceful, highly motivated and eager to learn" , reminding us of some of the key attributes which are central to the Guiding ethos - it's therefore patently obvious why she thinks Hermione would make a good Guide!
The influence of Joanne's mother upon her life and particularly on her writing is something which strikes a chord with many of us, and in a sense is a reminder that acknowledging and thanking those close to us should always be a number one priority.
JK Rowling sounds tremendously down to earth, and her willingness to engage with many of the issues affecting young women today demonstrates that she takes her position as a role model very seriously.
Her dedication to charity work is an inspiration for us all, and through making good use of her status as a public figure Joanne has helped to raise substantial amounts of money for a variety of good causes.
On a more personal note, it's refreshing to hear that she can brush off media accusations of a 'diva-like' personality with a good sense of humour, unlike many other celebrities we read about! The sense of fun and adventure which is characteristic of all of her novels clearly shines through in the interview, and it's good to discover that the qualities which JK Rowling values so much as part of her writing also form such a central element of what it means to be involved in Guiding today."
