Renfrewshire

Introduction

ClimbingHi there my name is Maureen and I have the pleasure of being County Commissioner for Renfrewshire.

I started in Guiding as an 11 year old Guide and have now been a Guider for many years. Whilst I first became a leader in the Guide Section I am currently a Brownie Guider which I would recommend to anyone. The fun and laughter with the Brownies while they take part in their activities is so rewarding that you forget the occasions it is hard work.

Guiding today is able to give the leaders and the girls so many different experiences which help us in the world of today. If you would be interested in joining us please use the form at the bottom of the page. We would be delighted to hear from you.

About Us

FootballRenfrewshire is the second largest County in Scotland with nearly 4000 members. This year has seen a number of residential experiences taking place with Rainbows having a sleepover, Brownies going to camp and the County Camp for Guides and Senior Section.

Camp this year had a Harry Potter theme with the girls going on a bat walk, making broomsticks, cycling, making bridges, archery and not to forget the climbing wall.

In addition two of our members have visited Denmark and Sweden with the Scottish International Group.

Ambassadors

AwardsMalcolm Jones is the Scottish Chairman of the Sail Training Association. His connection with Guiding in Renfrewshire has meant that some of our members have had the chance to experience life on the ocean waves on a Tall Ship. This kind of opportunity is just the kind of personal and development opportunities we want to be able to offer our members.

AbseilingSpeaking about being an Ambassador Malcolm said "It was an honour for me to be asked to serve as an Ambassador for Guiding and I feel privileged to act in this role."

MSP Wendy Alexander, also an Ambassador for Girlguiding Renfrewshire and an honoury Vice President of the Boys Brigade said - "I know how demanding but also how fulfilling it is to work with young people. By volunteering you are given a chance to give something back to your community and make a difference. You also get to have some fun and face some challenges too!"
