Introduction
Welcome to Tweed Valley County. My name is Irene Sandie and I am the County Commissioner. I am also, currently, a Brownie Guider in Galashiels. I have been in Guiding for the last ten years and for ten years in the 1970's. I got the Guiding bug from my mother, who was a Guide and a Ranger in Peebles and also a Guider some years later in Galashiels.

About Us
Tweed Valley covers quite a wide geographical area in the Scottish Borders. We used to be known as Peeblesshire & Selkirkshire County but have just recently changed our name to Tweed Valley with all of our Districts being situated on the River Tweed or one of its tributaries. We have five districts - Upper Tweeddale in the north of the County, based around West Linton and Netherurd, which is the home of Girlguiding Scotland's training centre, Peebles where the first Scottish Guide company was registered in 1910, Innerleithen & Walkerburn, Galashiels, and Selkirk. New homes are springing up in practically all of our Districts, which means that there are more girls looking to join in the fun of Guiding and we are, therefore, always on the lookout for potential Guiders and other adults to ensure that we can offer guiding activities to every girl who wishes to join a unit.
Our activities throughout the County are extremely diverse. We are surrounded by the beautiful Border hills and countryside and so, inevitably, outdoor activities feature in the programme for both town and rural based units. Rainbows, Brownies and Guides enjoy activities such as swimming, skating, theatre visits, international evenings and sausage sizzles. A large proportion of our Brownies enjoy the fun of Pack Holidays, while many Guides have the chance to go to camp with their unit. For the older girls, we have been fortunate in having some of our young Guiders selected to take part in Guiding Aid Projects in less developed countries and also Guides and Young Leaders chosen to attend International Events on behalf of Girlguiding Scotland. Guiders also manage to make time for themselves by getting together for a hill walk or social evening as relaxation from the dedicated commitment of providing challenges and fun for the girls. Many units become involved in various activities taking place in their local community, giving service, fund-raising and participating in the local town festivals.
We hope that the appointment of a Senior Section Adviser will encourage our older girls to continue in Guiding either attending Senior Section meetings and/or joining a unit as a Young Leader. This Section is for young women aged from 14 to 26 years. If you would like further details on this section, please contact us as detailed below.
We have a Trefoil Guild, based in Peebles, and a Local Association in Selkirk who, in addition to their own programme, support the Guiding Units, District and County events in many different ways. These are both groups of people who have either been active members in the past and/or who support the aims of Girlguiding by lending a hand where it is required. They also have their own agenda and meetings. It is not unusual to see a Trefoil Guild member trying out the bouncy castle at a Rainbow Riot, supervising the craft activities on a Brownie Adventure or behind the stalls at a fundraising coffee morning.
We are looking for...
One of the most important jobs is that of the Unit Leaders. Some of our units, in all sections, have waiting lists and we would encourage anyone with an interest in Guiding to consider broadening their horizons by becoming involved with our Guiding activities. All we ask from potential leaders is that they have an interest in helping the development of the girls, enthusiasm and a sense of humour. Girlguiding brings its own rewards in the form of new friends, plenty of fun, the opportunity for adult development and qualifications, which give your CV that little bit extra. Our County is also currently on the lookout for a Public Relations Adviser and Arts Adviser - maybe your skills lie in one of these areas? Why don't you get in touch!

Vacant Positions:
- Adult Leaders in all Sections
- Public Relations Adviser
- Arts Adviser
- Senior Section Members
