Introduction
Hi, I'm Tina Alexander, I have been Guiding since I was a Brownie on the Isle of Arran and I have been a Guide Leader for about 16 years. I started guiding as an adult as an Assistant Guider in Derby, where I had just moved to take up my first job. It really helped me get to know people. When I moved back to Scotland in the early 90's I volunteered to help my local Guide Group in Strathaven, where I was greeted with open arms.
I am now County Commissioner for the county of West Lanarkshire but I still continue with my Guide Company in Strathaven - which means I get to continue to be a teenager even if I've just turned 40!

About Us
Girlguiding West Lanarkshire covers the areas of Rutherglen, Cambuslang, East Kilbride and Strathaven and has 5 Divisions (2 in East Kilbride).
We have around 1500 members, however we do have some quite substantial Waiting Lists which more Adult Leader would help us reduce.
In recent times our county has had a real international flavour. We have had a number of Guiders who have taken part in GOLD Projects, in no small part inspired by our previous International Advisor who is now GOLD Co-ordinator for the UK. One of our Guiders Karyn Queen gave an excellent report of her GOLD trip to Madagascar at the Girlguiding Scotland Annual Review.
Previously, I have been involved in a Guide Trip to Switzerland, which was fantastic fun and an experience that I know the Guides thoroughly enjoyed.
Camping, Pack Holidays and Sleepovers are very popular within the county. Although we don't have our own campsite we are within easy travelling distance of some great sites. Our guide halls in East Kilbride and Rutherglen and our Scout & Guide Centre in Strathaven are excellent facilities for sleepovers.
We are looking for...
West Lanarkshire is always looking for new adult volunteers to help run units. The new programmes for the guiding sections are encouraging lots of girls to come and join and we need units to accommodate them.
Training and support is available - all you need is some spare time, enthusiasm and a love of fun and adventure.
'Rainbows are great, I wish it was on every day of the week'.
An 'enthusiastic' County Rainbow.
'I really enjoyed the sleepover but I'm really tired now!'
A Guide following a Guide Sleepover, where 'sleep' didn't play much part! (believe me, I was there!!).
