"Just be yourself"

On being Scottish...

Which is your favourite building in Scotland?

My favourite new Scottish building is the new Parliament Building - it is now the most modern parliament building in the world and sits in the land in the most sympathetic way. I also love Holyrood Palace; the most beautiful renaissance building in Scotland.

What's your favourite Scottish programme?

I think I still love Sunset Song though it was on television more than thirty years ago.

Career…

What was your proudest moment in your career?

Presenting the Referendum programme on the Scottish Parliament because the question mattered so much.

Which programme have you enjoyed presenting the most?

Newsnight, Newsnight Review and Tales from Europe are the perfect combination of politics arts and culture.

If you could get a truthful answer from anyone in the world - what would the question be and to whom?

I would ask Mary Stuart if she was involved in any plot to kill Elizabeth.

What would you still like to do?

Interview people until I drop.

Guiding…

What is your fondest Guiding memory?

I loved the Guide camp at Lendalfoot for the camaraderie and communal cooking - despite the midges and hot chocolate made with water.

Being a woman…

What is the best advice you have been given as a woman?

Just be yourself.

What's important to her...

What is the one thing you always have with you?

I always have my passport with me in case I have to travel instantly.

When was the last time you had a really good laugh?

Saturday night when old friends came to dinner.

What is your secret talent/party trick?

Telling bad jokes.
