Sandi Thom

Sandi Thom - Singer/Songwriter

Sandi is a singer and songwriter who shot to fame with her internet hit ' I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker'. She grew up in Banff and was a Brownie and Guide.

On being Scottish...


Who is your favourite Scottish band?

It has to be The Proclaimers, I toured with them last year and apart from being amazing musicians, they are great people and my band and I had a fantastic time. They also have starred in a Family Guy, which does it for me.




How would you describe the North East Coast of Scotland to someone who hasn’t been?

The north coast is beautiful, the sort of place you will never forget, its magical, historical and has amazing coastlines. I think that is my favourite memory, the beautiful beaches.



Career…


What do you enjoy the most about your success?

It’s made my life more exciting, although now I have less time and time is very precious


Which has been your most memorable gig so far?

T in the Park in Scotland, it rained for my entire set and I was drenched, but it was amazing.


Which is the one song do you love performing the most?

Punk Rocker as everyone sings along.

What values did you learn in Guiding that remains useful to you today?

To respect my elders.


What did you most enjoy in the Brownies?

My Brownie Guide salute!


Being a woman…


If you could perform two songs with any singer who would it be?

I would perform ‘Case of you’ by Joni Mitchell, with Joni Mitchell and of my songs I would choose ‘Little Remedy’


What is the best advice you have been given by another woman?

Always brush my teeth, by my Mum


What's important to her...


When did you last punch the air with joy?

When I got into the bath after returning from America


If you could read the mind of anyone famous – who would it be?

Johnny Depp, because I find him intriguing


If you could win a million pounds for a charity or NPO of your choice – which one would it be and why?

I love animals, so the RSPCA
