Lesley McKenna - Snowboarder
Scotland's top snowboarder, she competed in the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics & won the World Cup in Japan 03. She is from Aviemore, Inverness-shire where she was a Brownie."It is always best to break the challenge into small pieces, tackle it a bit at a time."
I really love to go boarding on Cairngorm which is the home mountain at my home town, Aviemore.
There is something special about being able to go snowboarding at home and the scene up there
is really good fun.
I love to go surfing up on the north east coast when I am at home but my favourite place to
go surfing in Scotland is Tiree. I love it there.
I miss the peace and quite and the beautiful scenery.
Beautiful, fun, very special.
I don't think I would want to repeat any week in my life as I love to see what new things are going to happen to me.
Varied, Fun, challenging, rewarding.

Can you describe what it's like to snowboard?
Snowboarding gives you the feeling of being free as well as the challenge of pushing your own limits physically and mentally. The environment you do it in is amazingly beautiful so this just adds to the whole great experience of snowboarding.
We have made two films, Dropstitch and Transfer. Transfer is the most recent and is a follow up to Dropstitch. You can buy both films in snowboard shops or online at www.chunkyknit.com. I love both of them and think they are a good representation of women's snowboarding.
The best way to give snowboarding a try is to find out when there is a come and try session at your local dry slope or indoor snow dome or, in Scotland your local ski area. They all run them and everyone involved is very friendly and helpful. A good site to check out for information is www.powderroom.net
It is fun to do sports with other people so try and get into new sports with your friends and you will have way more fun.
What is the best approach a woman can have to any physical or emotional challenge she faces?
It is always best to break the challenge down into small pieces and tackle it a bit at a time. That way you can see your progress and it does not seem too daunting.
Being able to inspire other girls and women to get into snowboarding through the films we make at chunkyknit.
A good book.
I am really into alternative medicine.
This morning when I found out my friend just won the opening World Cup in Chile.
Good question. Not sure really, there are so many worthy charities. I would have to really think about it but it would be something to do with kids like the NSPCC for sure.
