"It is always best to break the challenge into small pieces, tackle it a bit at a time."

On being Scottish...

What is your favourite place in Scotland to go a) boarding and b) surfing in?

I really love to go boarding on Cairngorm which is the home mountain at my home town, Aviemore. There is something special about being able to go snowboarding at home and the scene up there is really good fun.

I love to go surfing up on the north east coast when I am at home but my favourite place to go surfing in Scotland is Tiree. I love it there.

What do you miss about Scotland the most when you are away?

I miss the peace and quite and the beautiful scenery.

How would you describe Scotland in four words?

Beautiful, fun, very special.

Career…

If you could repeat a week in your life - which one would it be?

I don't think I would want to repeat any week in my life as I love to see what new things are going to happen to me.

If you could describe your career in four words - what would they be?

Varied, Fun, challenging, rewarding.

Can you describe what it's like to snowboard?

Snowboarding gives you the feeling of being free as well as the challenge of pushing your own limits physically and mentally. The environment you do it in is amazingly beautiful so this just adds to the whole great experience of snowboarding.

You have been working on Dropstitch - a film about all female international snowboarders - where can people see this?

We have made two films, Dropstitch and Transfer. Transfer is the most recent and is a follow up to Dropstitch. You can buy both films in snowboard shops or online at www.chunkyknit.com. I love both of them and think they are a good representation of women's snowboarding.

What would be the first steps for women and girls who would like to give snowboarding a go?

The best way to give snowboarding a try is to find out when there is a come and try session at your local dry slope or indoor snow dome or, in Scotland your local ski area. They all run them and everyone involved is very friendly and helpful. A good site to check out for information is www.powderroom.net

Being a woman…

What is your best tip on getting fit and healthy?

It is fun to do sports with other people so try and get into new sports with your friends and you will have way more fun.

What is the best approach a woman can have to any physical or emotional challenge she faces?

It is always best to break the challenge down into small pieces and tackle it a bit at a time. That way you can see your progress and it does not seem too daunting.

What is your most proud achievement as a woman?

Being able to inspire other girls and women to get into snowboarding through the films we make at chunkyknit.

What's important to her...

What is the one thing you can't live without when you travel?

A good book.

What hobby or interest / secret talent do you have that would seem really unlikely?

I am really into alternative medicine.

When was the last time you punched the air with joy?

This morning when I found out my friend just won the opening World Cup in Chile.

If you won a million pounds for a charity - which one would it be?

Good question. Not sure really, there are so many worthy charities. I would have to really think about it but it would be something to do with kids like the NSPCC for sure.
