Rae Hendrie

Rae Hendrie - Actor

Rae is an actor and can be seen on Monarch of the Glen. Rae is from Selkirk, Tweed Valley, where she was a Brownie and Guide.

"Believe in yourself, follow your dream. Be passionate about what you are doing."

On being Scottish...

What is your favourite Scottish Theatre Company?

Grid Iron. They are a really great company - their work is always interesting, diverse and heartfelt. I did some work with the Director at drama school - a play and workshops and love it. They did Becky does a Bronco and it was brilliant - it won quite a few awards including the Scotsman Fringe First.

Career…

Which job will you tell your grandchildren about?

My experience working on Monarch of the Glen - it was a really fantastic experience, so I will probably bore them with tales and tapes of that!

What's the best piece of advice you can give to girls and young women interesting in acting?

Believe in yourself, follow your dream. Also be passionate about what you are doing. I think people recognise that.

Which has been the most challenging role you have played?

All actors have to choose a speech for their auditions at drama school. I chose something from the brilliantly written play by David Harrower called Knives In Hens. It's about the development and enlightenment of a young woman set about 300 years ago in a rural community.

I am really lucky that years later I was able to play the lead in that play at The Royal Exchange in Manchester. There are only three people in the play and I was on stage for almost the entire 1 ½ hours. It was a genuine pleasure to do - an amazing play in a beautiful theatre.

Guiding…

What was your greatest challenge and/ or achievement in Guiding?

I did the Baden Powell Challenge Award, which is a lot of hard work but really rewarding. I'm also not a natural leader so it did challenge and develop my leadership skills. Looking back now I have no idea how I did it but it am really proud that I did.

Being a woman…

What is the one thing you have learned about life that you would pass on?

Everything changes. So if you are stressed out or anxious about a situation - try not to be because things do move on and change. You never know what's around the corner…

What's important to her...

If you won a million pounds for a charity of your choice - what would it be?

I've had the opportunity to work with immigrant children and some of their stories are so horrible of what they have hone through and the difficulties they have setting here - so it would be someone like Save the Children.

What can't you say no to?

Green and Blacks chocolate ice cream!!

If you were an animal - what would you be?

A dog - because I'm loyal and fun!
