Kelly Cooper Barr

Kelly Cooper Barr - Stylist and Fashion Editor

Kelly is a Stylist/Fashion Editor for The Saturday Herald Magazine. She is originally from Edinburgh and was a Brownie.

"A woman should believe in herself. We're multi tasking mothers, daughters, wives, friends, making the world better!"

Scotland and being Scottish...

What is your favourite street to wander down in Scotland?

Elie Beach Side High Street. I love most coastal paths in Scotland. I love to visit the beach, even on a wet windy day. It reminds me of my childhood and just recharges my batteries.

Sometimes I'll down tools if things are getting too stressful and head to the nearest beach and within minutes of stepping onto the sand I feel great again.

Which celebrity do you think is a good ambassador for Scotland?

Annie Lennox - because she is still driven after all these years. She is extremely talented, a hard working single mum and does huge amounts for charity... and is strikingly beautiful.

What luxury Scottish item would you take with you on a desert island?

Cashmere of course. a huge scarf/pashmina that would keep me warm AND stylish and I could use as a blanket at night.

Career…

What three style rules do you always adhere to?

1. Always feel comfortable in your clothes because if you don't feel good you won't look good.
2. Choose clothes that will flatter your body shape and colouring rather than being a slave to the latest trend.
3. Smile!

Who have you enjoyed styling the most?

I enjoyed styling Sir Paul McCartney as he is a living legend and he sang and played the guitar to me and the photographer all day. He was charming.

Guiding…

What was your favourite thing about Brownies and do you remember any of your Brownie friends?

I loved going to the Brownies every week and taking up the badge challenges. I can only remember one friend, Lesley. Don't know what has become of her.

What was your Brownie uniform like - do you remember any of your badges?

The new Guiding activities sound amazing. I wish I could go back! My uniform was a brown tunic with a yellow tie with lots of badges!

Being a woman…

What was the greatest challenge you faced as a woman and are you a different person because of it?

The greatest challenge was when my marriage broke up. I had massive debt, two bewildered kids, no home and a career to keep afloat. On my own I got through it.

It made me stronger and more determined to be a success. It also made me face my fears (losing my lovely home and home life). It made me less frightened of change and losing possessions.

What are the most important qualities a woman can have?

A woman should believe in herself. We are amazing, multi tasking mothers, daughters, wives, girlfriends, friends who make the world a better place!

What was the best piece of advice you got from another woman?

FOLLOW YOUR DREAM AND GO FOR GOLD - in other words, try not to compromise too much.

What's important to her...

Who makes you laugh?

My teenage kids: Josh and Skye make me laugh!
