Introduction

Hi, I'm Nicola, I loved Brownies as a child and was delighted to get the chance to become an adult leader and get involved in all the fun activities! That was seven years ago and now I am also the Marketing co-ordinator in Edinburgh which lets met get involved in advertising, recruiting volunteers and other promotional events, I have even been interviewed on Radio Forth & Radio Scotland! As Edinburgh is such a large city with so many members there are always lots of things on the go. Please contact me - nicmcdermid@hotmail.com if you have a skill to share, or would just like to challenge yourself and try something new.
“You cannot buy fulfilment with money, but in Guiding your life will be richer”,

About Us
Welcome to Girlguiding in the Capital!
Every year is different for Edinburgh County, but one thing that does stay the same is the endless new opportunities, activities and adventures on offer to our 5000 girls across the city.
Girls of all ages are taking part in our County Show “Rhythm of Life” looking back over 100 years and we are also taking part in the Edinburgh Gang Show with the Scouts. This year we celebrate 21 years of the Rainbows and all our young girls are all going to Teddy Bears picnics to celebrate. Brownies are having sleepovers and pack holidays and the County is having its own Brownie pack holiday weekend at Netherurd.
The biggest activity of the year is the Festival 08 international camp which we are hosting with Scouting this summer. It brings together over 500 guides, scouts and leaders for a week of exciting pursuits from Quad biking to Salsa dancing.
And that is just a sample of what we got up to!
“Guiding is a building block up which people can build for the future”,
Liz, Rainbow leader, Leith
Girlguiding offers youngsters the opportunity to learn new skills, teamwork and make new friends. Not only do our youngsters benefit but also our volunteers. We have a very well developed programme of training for our volunteers; from First Aid through to Outdoor Skills and with lots of flexibility you really can give as much or as little time as you want.
We are looking for...
We have over 600 adult volunteers helping to make these experiences possible. But we still have girls on our waiting lists and we would love to hear from anyone who would be interested in giving some of their time to Girlguiding in Edinburgh. There are opportunities to suit everyone, whether you would like a weekly commitment or want to help with a specific skill. Any time that you can give to Girlguiding can really make a big difference to the girls.
“I was inspired by leaders who took my daughter to camp, who had full time jobs and children themselves, that’s why I got involved”,
Pat, Brownie leader, Portobello
