Introduction

Dumfriesshire is a rural County, stretching from Langholm in the east, down to Gretna and up to Sanquhar and Kirkconnel in the north.
Events such as swimming galas and fun days serve to bring together groups from all over the County.
Our County Commissioner is Jean Purves.
About Us

Members have travelled to Switzerland and some Guides attended International camps in Holland and Belgium. International trips are an exciting aspect of our programme, open to all, but many of our members also enjoy camping trips, sleepovers and pack holidays nearer to home.
Dumfriesshire joined all the other Counties in the South of Scotland to walk the Southern Upland Way as part of Walk the World for WAGGGS and also to raise money for Girlguiding Scotland's BigG appeal.
We are looking for...

All offers of help are enthusiastically received! But we are especially seeking women to help run or lead Brownie packs in the County. So many girls want to join in the fun that we just can't accommodate them all at present! Also anyone with IT and secretarial skills, or willing to produce our newsletter would be especially welcome. Volunteers that have a talent for music and singing would be eagerly welcomed too.
Quotes from our members:
"When I left Netherurd I left 50 friends" a new Brownie Guider after her first visit to the Scottish Training and Activity Centre near Peebles.

"Guiding has given me tremendous opportunities and has provided a continuous thread of challenges, encouragement and support throughout my life."
An adult with a long a distinguished career in Guiding.
"If you put in 10% you get back a lot more."
Brownie Guider.
"I get a great sense of satisfaction from Guiding, watching Brownies grow from shy seven year olds into confident young ladies of 10!"
Brown Owl with a "wicked sense of humour, which helps!"
"Being PRA (Public Relations Adviser) is the best job I've done in Guiding. It allowed me to work to my own initiative and gave me the impetus to return to studying. But best of all were the training weekends, great fun and a forum for the exchange of ideas and news."
PRA.
