Banff and Buchan

Introduction

Rainbows in the sunOur County Commissioner is Katherine Birch.

The County of Banff & Buchan stretches from Peterhead around the coast to Portsoy, and inland to the Turriff and Fyvie areas. The geographic spread is reflected in the diverse range of activities carried out in Units. Our girls 'do' the Cally Rally, an outdoor activity and watersport weekend. Also, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme looks impressive on their CVs. An overnight coach trip to London to sightsee and attend 'Big Gig' our national annual feast of popular music with big names acts is not out of the question.

We are a very happy bunch and welcome any new members, adult or girl, with open arms. If you would like more information on Girlguiding Banff & Buchan style please contact us.

About Us

Cooking supper during a D & E WalkUnits have visited the Isle of Man and Jersey and we are to be found in Mexico, at 'our Cabana', canoeing and tobogganing in the mountains of Switzerland at 'our Chalet'. Our girls have taken part in recent Scottish International trip to Iceland, Denmark, Ghana, Eire, - annual experiences which are open to all members. Over 1000 Brownies and Rainbows have great fun not only in their weekly meetings, annual holidays as well as County events but also taking Guiding into their communities. I have heard it said that many look forward to the carols at Christmas or seeing their daughters and granddaughters receive their awards, sometimes on top of mountains or buildings.

Of course girls are still involved in gorge walking and abseiling as well as 50 mile long expeditions and self sufficiency; campfires and sausage sizzles. So if you are 5 or 55 you are still welcome to contact me.

We are looking for...

Bar chart showing waiting listsJubilee nightAll Units be they Rangers, Guides, Brownies and Rainbows are always ready to receive girls. Adults are most welcome too - we need Leader, Unit helpers, Activity leaders as well as Badge Testers. You are the only ones who can help our young people develop to their full potential. We have adequate support to give you the skills to do so.

Quote from one of our members:
"Overall, I had a brilliant time. The two weeks sped past. We all got on so well as a group that for two weeks there were no arguments, a surprising event for a group of girls and we have made plans to try to meet up again to swap photos and reminisce about the wonderful time we spent together".
Christina M, Young Leader about her trip to Denmark.

Ambassadors

Rainbow Riot fun!Our most high profile Ambassador has been Alex Salmon, our M.P. who accepted the accolade. He has supported Girlguiding for many years as I can recall him giving a talk to Rangers in Peterhead one evening about 10 years ago.

Karaoke time!

We have quite a number of other less widely known Ambassadors but we are very grateful for the sterling job they do in the Banff & Buchan area. They range from the Rev. D. Clyne of Fraserburgh Old Parish Church to Mr. R. Broughall the photographer who has probably taken thousands of Guiding photos all over the County. We have many local experts who have become Ambassadors.
