Introduction
Hello from Aberdeen!
I'm Marjory Reid and I am PR Adviser for Aberdeen. I am a Rainbow Guider and have been a Guide Guider, Ranger Adviser and a Commissioner. We have a PR team of nine made up of Guiders from all sections, the assistant County Commissioner, an IT expert and the D of E organiser. Our ages range from 22 years up to "older than we care to remember"! We all enjoy the opportunities Girlguiding offers and most of all have fun.
About Us
Aberdeen is a cosmopolitan city with a thriving oil industry and two universities. It has sparkling granite buildings, lots of parks, a busy harbour, two miles of beach and there is easy access to the surrounding countryside and mountains.
We do lots of activities as a County as all units are within easy reach of our County Headquarters. Favourite events that happen most years for Brownies and Guides include a Christmas Disco at a local nightclub and football and cooking events. All the Rainbows usually come together two or three times a year for musical, outdoor and Thinking Day fun. Senior Section groups are always doing something different - but, whatever it is, it usually involves food!! The Guiders' day out is always good fun, a previous trip was to Glasgow for Christmas shopping and to see "Miss Saigon".
Outdoor activities are very popular and we have our own well-equipped campsite in the beautiful grounds of Crathes Castle on Deeside and a very comfortable Brownie house, Fyfe House, near Inverurie.
International opportunities are well supported, Guides and Guiders have been to the Dutch National Jamboree, several Aberdeen Guiders have been to Ghana with the Scottish project and one young Guider was chosen to participate in a Guiding Overseas Linked to Development (GOLD) project in Madagascar.
We are looking for...

...adult volunteers to help with Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Senior Section either regularly as a leader or occasionally as a helper with, for example, accounts, badge testing, events, outings, etc. You would be joining nearly 300 adults helping over 2000 girls to develop their full potential. No experience is necessary as full training is given and there is a good support network of experienced leaders and helpers.
Quote from one of our members:
"Leadership is about giving to the girls as well as receiving so much from them. Without my leadership experience, I don't think I'd have got my promotion at work".
