What is Polaris?

Polaris a group of Scottish members of The Senior Section that regularly meet up to have fun, talk about hot guiding topics and make new friends. The group is open to all Girlguiding Scotland members aged 16 to 25.

Through Polaris, members of The Senior Section can share their views and opinions on national guiding decisions and feed them back to Girlguiding Scotland’s Trustees.

Recently, the group has been involved planning The Senior Section Spectacular centenary celebrations for 2016 and electing Girlguiding Scotland’s representatives on the Scottish Youth Parliament.

How does it work?

Polaris is led by a peer elected committee who are responsible for all aspects of running the group, whether it’s planning the next get-together or publicising upcoming opportunities.

The group holds day and weekend events twice a year all around Scotland, usually in spring and autumn. Polaris events are a great way to find out about exciting opportunities, try new activities, meet other members of The Senior Section and share your thoughts on guiding issues.

How much does it cost?

It’s free to come along to Polaris day events and reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. The Polaris weekend event usually costs around £50 for accommodation and activities, and travel expenses are covered.

Can I use it for any awards?

Coming along to Polaris events can count towards some awards including The Senior Section’s Look Wider Octants and the Queen’s Guide Award.

How can I join?
