Go on an adventure and explore the great outdoors with like-minded members at this training weekend!
Who is it for?
This event is open to all members of Girlguiding aged 18+ who are keen to improve their walking skills and navigation techniques! This is also an excellent opportunity to progress from Level 1 or for those of you with hill walking experience who want to learn more about leading Girlguiding groups safely on future adventures.
Are you working towards gaining a qualification after having done a DofE or Queen’s Guide expedition? Great news! You’re welcome to come along too.
To start at Level 2 you should have undertaken six walks including one that was at least 6km or 4 miles long. Three should have taken place in the last 3 years and one or more of the walks should have taken place in open country.
There’s also an assessment course for Level 2 for those who have completed the training and gained the necessary experience.
What will the weekend involve?
Your meals and accommodation are included in the price and the training will cover the practical and theoretical sessions of the walking scheme:
- Route planning
- Navigational techniques
- Group management
- Hazards and risk assessment
- Day, micro and low visibility navigation
This course can be adapted to suit particular needs. Please note this weekend will involve some intense physical activity and being outdoors in all kinds of different weather conditions.
Accommodation is in bunks and you’ll need to bring a lower sheet, pillow case and a sleeping bag or duvet. There will be some outdoor equipment is available to borrow!
