It’s time to dig out your walking boots and book your place on our next walking level 2 training and assessment weekend in Renfrewshire!
Who can come?
This weekend is open to all members 18+ who’d like to build on their walking skills and navigation techniques and those keen to learn how to safely lead Girlguiding groups.
This training is also a great opportunity for those who have already completed level 1 or you’re working towards your Duke of Edinburgh or Queen’s Guide award.
To start training at level 2 you should have undertaken six walks that were:
• At least 6 km or 4 miles
• Three of the walks should have taken place in the last three years
• One or more of the walks should have taken place in open countryside
What about the assessment?
There’s also an assessment course for level 2 for those who have completed the training and gained the necessary experience.
What will the weekend involve?
The training will cover the main topics of the practical and theoretical sessions of the walking scheme like route planning, navigational techniques, group management, hazards and risk assessment and day, micro and low visibility navigation.
This course can be adapted to suit particular needs but it will involve some action-packed physical activities and being out in all kinds of weather conditions.
What’s the accommodation like?
Accommodation is in bunks, so please bring a lower sheet, pillow case and a sleeping bag or duvet. There will be some outdoor equipment available to borrow.
