Brownies get a taster of life as a Guide at special activity weekend
Brownies from Aberdeen, Glasgow, Dundee and Edinburgh got to try out all things Guides at a fun activity event at Netherurd last weekend 4-6 September 2015.
The two sections joined together for a weekend filled with fun activities including Body Zorbing – bouncing around in your own inflatable suit – canoeing, the high ropes course, a photo challenge, making s’mores and learning camping skills.
The 35 Brownies were joined at ‘Gateway to Guides’ by Guides who told them all about what their section does and shared their experiences of going on camps and completing Guide badges.
Brownies, aged 7 – 10, work on a programme packed full of fun and exciting challenges including interest badges covering everything from art and dancing to watersports, wildlife and world cultures. Brownies also get a chance to have fun with their friends at sleepovers, picnics, camps and other adventures.
Through Guides, girls aged 10 – 14 get to go on camps, holidays and trips, meet new friends, work towards fun badges and try out new activities like trampolining and climbing. The Guide programme helps them grow in confidence, learn about working with others and take responsibility by planning and carrying out their own activities.
Brownie Leah said:
“I loved the Zorbs – they were great fun and I learned how to roll over by myself!”
Karen Mackie, Scottish Brownie Adviser and the organiser of the event, said:
“We put on Gateway to Guides to show Brownies just how much fun it is to be a Guide – and had a great weekend!
“It was great to see the older and younger girls working together.
“My favourite moment was seeing how much fun the Brownies had in the photo booth trying out the Guide uniform!”
