Senior Section
*What is the Senior Section?
A young woman may belong to the Senior Section from her 14th to her 26th birthday. The Senior Section is an all-embracing term for Girlguiding UK members who are between 14 and 25 years old, including:
- Ranger Guides, both members of Ranger Guide Units and Lone Ranger Guides
- Young Leaders (including Lone Young Leaders)
- Female members of Joint Scout and Guide Units
- Young Guiders, Advisers and Commissioners who choose to participate in the section programme
- Junior Council members
- Members of Student Scout and Guide Clubs
- British Youth Council delegation members
- Female LINK members
- Girlguiding UK Duke of Edinburgh's Award participants

The Senior Section Programme
During her time in the Senior Section, a young woman participates in a programme known as Look Wider, which is based on the principles and methods of Guiding. It is designed to appeal to all young women and offers fun and flexibility to suit the individual. The programme is also linked to a variety of recognised qualifications or awards, both within and outside Guiding. The opportunities and challenges which it offers can be followed by a group or by individual members. The choice is made by the members themselves.
The Look Wider Programme is based around eight programme areas known as Octants:

Promise, Badges, Law and Motto
The Senior Section has the same Law, Promise and Motto as the Guide Section. There is also a further commitment: to be of service to the community.
In their own time, with people of their choice, Senior Section members make a Promise. Members wear a Promise badge appropriate to the group to which they belong. (When a young woman belongs to two different groups, she may wear either badge as appropriate).
Uniform
Members wear a uniform appropriate to the group to which they belong, or wear clothing suitable for the activity in which they are participating.

What is Polaris Scotland?
The Polaris Scotland (opens new window) is a social network of 200 young women between 18-25. They plan and run their own projects, activities and events and act as a voice to the Youth Parliament and Council.
