What I do in the Senior Section
I am a Young Leader in a local Guide Unit. I help the Guiders organise and run the nights. I help look after the Guides and teach some activities.
Lorna from Dunbartonshire
I am currently working towards the leadership qualification to enable me to work with Brownies as a Young Leader. Also however, I am working towards my Queens Guide.
Fiona from Inverness-shire
The best thing I have done in the Senior Section
At present, it has to have been the GOLD (Guiding Overseas Linked with Development) project I was selected to go on last year. It was a fun, enjoyable and rewarding experience that allowed me to make new friends and find out about Guiding and the culture of another country. See International section for more information.
Fiona from Inverness-shire
It's hard to pin down one thing. I've loved the travel, the leadership training, the friendship and the masses of activities I've tried.
Rachel from Midlothian
What skills I have learned
I have learned to work with small children since helping with the Brownies. This has now made me want to work with children in the future and am now applying for Camp America.
Lorna from Dunbartonshire
It's made me more willing to just 'go for it' in respect of being open to new ideas and making the most of new opportunities.
Fiona from Inverness-shire
Leadership, teamwork and how to communicate effectively with people.
Rachel from Midlothian
Why I chose to be part of an organisation just for girls
There are none of the usual problems that are associated with having boys in a group. It makes the girls more focused on what they are doing so they do it to the best of their ability.
Fiona from Dunbartonshire
Actually, it's quite refreshing to have a break from boys sometimes - like a good night out with the girls! It also allows us to be ourselves without any inhibitions or having to be competitive. I notice that particularly with the much younger and more sensitive girls.
Rachel from Midlothian
Ways in which I have benefited from being in Girlguiding
Being a member of the Senior Section has helped meet lots of new people. I have better communication and social skills.
Samantha from Inverness-shire
I have made some really great friendships that will stay with me for years. It has given me a lot more confidence. I can stand up in front of large groups of people with no concerns.
Rachel from Midlothian
What would surprise other people about Guiding
I feel that I am more outgoing and confident as a result of meeting new people. I help run a Brownie pack and it has helped me improve my communication skills.
Suzie from Dunbartonshire
It's about meeting new people, being exposed to a fantastic variety of opportunities as well as being very rewarding when working with a unit.
Fiona from Dunbartonshire
Things that have surprised me about being in the Senior Section
