What is Lone Guiding?
The aim of Lone Guiding is to allow girls and young women anywhere the chance to be part of Guiding, even if they can’t attend a weekly meeting. Lone Guiding is for girls who are unable attend regular meetings maybe due to where they live, other commitments or a disability. Lones are linked with a Guider and keep in touch via email, text, phone, newsletter and good old fashioned post!
Many adults become Lone Guiders because of work or family commitments which prevent them from attending a unit regularly.
Why be a Lone?
There is no appropriate Guiding activity in your locality. The nearest Guiding group is too far away. Your college or work commitments restrict you from attending. Family commitments mean you don't have the time for weekly meetings. For one reason or another you can't attend local meetings regularly
Who can be a Lone?
Lone Guiding is for anyone who is unable to attend a local Unit for whatever reason. The Lone scheme is open to anyone who is over 5 years and who has not reached her 65th birthday. There is also a Lone Trefoil guild for adults who want to support Guiding in their locality or just keep in touch. Any adult over 18 years of age can become a Lone Guider once they have completed their Guider training or if they are already a warranted Guider.
What does a Lone Guider do?
As a Lone Guider, you liaise with Lone girls in your area offering them help and advice with their Guiding adventures. As well as doing all the normal badges, current girls have completed their Baden Powell Challenge, participated in the International GOLD scheme visiting places like Thailand and Poland, and gained their Queen’s Guide Award as well as attending the annual Lones’ residential. Everyone in Lones also receives a newsletter written by other girls.
How do I join?
To become a Lone Guider you need to complete basic Guider training and undergo disclosure checks.
