Guide Getaway to Netherurd (A)Plenty of fun and adventure at Netherurd.
A little corner in the Borders became a magical Princess castle over the weekend of 20th and 21st March 2010 as almost 300 Rainbows from as far afield as Inverness, Ayr, East Paisley and Berwickshire took part in the Princess Parties held at Netherurd.
A team comprising of a few Commissioners, Rainbow Guiders, Young Leaders and a couple of Guides, spent over 12 hours decorating the Garden House which resulted in the Main Room being transformed into a pink, sparkly ballroom fit for any Princess.
After being greeted by one of the Team Princesses, the Rainbows were themselves transformed in their own dressing rooms into Rainbow Princesses. After checking their Tiaras in the Princesses’ mirror and being sprinkled with Magical Princess dust, the Rainbows – sorry “Princesses” – then entered the Ballroom.
Each Princess then went on to different rooms in the “castle” to decorate their own special jewellery box, to create a Princess bracelet to wear and to make special Princess wands as well as getting their photograph taken. Back in the Ballroom, all the Rainbows were then taught a special Princess dance by our professional instructors, which involved lots of beautiful movements.
One Rainbow Leader, who is approaching 65 and who has been a Brownie, a Guide or a Guider for most of her life, said that attending the Princess Parties with her girls was her all time Mountain top Moment!
Our Guides enjoyed a magical Wicked Over Water residential on island of Mull in May 2010. Adventure was the key theme of the weekend, where girls experienced exploring, pioneering, backwoods cooking and Balamory castle!
Another special event for Brownies took place at Netherurd 14-16 May, and was the biggest Brownie Adventure ever!
It was a fun-filled June weekend in Perth when Brownies and their Leaders gathered for a Carnival themed event. There was lots to see and do, from bouncy castles, inflatable assault courses, giant slides to stilt walkers, clowns and ariel performers (and lots more)!
100 members of Girlguiding UK climbed a number of Munros on Saturday 19th June 2010. This event was open to all members – the only stipulation being that participants must be hill-fit. A fitting challenge for all our members in our Centenary year.
1000 Guides and Senior Section girls from around Scotland from 17 to 24 July got together for a fabulous Guiding camp, where they tried out a variety of activities – some adventurous, some traditional, some new, some just relaxing. .
A Senior Section members exclusive weekend, when Rangers, Young Leaders, Young Guiders, Senior Section Guiders and Advisers got together to make new friends, try different activities and have fun!
The Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, was alive with world song and dance over the weekend of 20/21st February 2010 when 3000 Rainbows, Brownies and Guides came from all over Scotland to the sell-out performing-arts event One World One Beat, to celebrate the annual World Thinking Day in an extra-special way during Girlguiding UK’s Centenary year. The girls took part in a series of fun, energetic and educational workshops based around the themes of world music, drama and dance. Workshops ranged from street theatre, didgeridoos and active rhythmology. The event culminated in a grand evening finale with the girls dancing, performing their Street Theatre, singing an emotive song about joining together and taking part in a Body Percussion Performance.
Girlguiding Scotland’s Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Senior Section girls made a lasting difference for 2010, breathing new life into gardens, window boxes and pieces of land throughout Scotland. This was a competition project and the best designs were awarded prizes in 2010.

Girlguiding Scotland commissioned a dance and music to celebrate our Centenary. The dance is called A Hundred Thousand Welcomes. It features the left-hand shake with dancers revolving into the number 100.
