GIRLS FROM ACROSS SCOTLAND WOWED BY THE UK’S TOP MUSIC TALENT
2,200 music fans from across Scotland descended on Glasgow Royal Concert Hall last Saturday (21/08/2010) to witness some of music’s top acts perform at Girlguiding Scotland’s Tartan Gig 100.
Alesha Dixon, The Wanted, Pearl and the Puppets, Carrie Mac, Twenty Twenty and Ironic wowed the ‘girl-only’ audience at the exclusive event for Guides, all aged 10 and above. The event was hosted by STV’s The Hour presenter Michelle McManus.
This event is just one of a huge number of events happening in Scotland as part of the Girlguiding Centenary Celebrations in 2010.
Alesha Dixon said; “I think Girlguiding is a fantastic initiative. I wish I went to Girlguiding when I was younger. I think it encourages young women to be confident and it gives you a focus and something to get your teeth into and helps you develop into young women.
“I’m very excited to be taking part in this concert and I hope they have the best time of their lives.”
Girlguiding Scotland Chief Commissioner, Dinah Faulds, added: “The Tartan Gig 100 is a great way for girls to experience a top band concert in a really safe environment. We put girls in the lead and this is how the girls’ want to celebrate our Centenary. It is just one of many exciting opportunities open to our members across Scotland and shows yet another way the impact the organisation has made on the lives of girls and young women over the past 100 years.”
