20.05.09 LORD HIGH COMMISSIONER LORD WILSON OF TILLYORN HOLDS RECEPTION IN HONOUR OF GIRLGUIDING SCOTLAND’S CENTENARY The Lord High Commissioner Lord Wilson of Tillyorn KT, GCMG, held in honour of Girlguiding Scotland’s Centenary year a reception within the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh, on Thursday 20th May 2010. On arrival the guests were piped into the palace and escorted into the Long Gallery, where Guides and Brownies from Edinburgh performed Girlguiding Scotland’s specially commissioned Centenary Scottish Country Dance: ‘A Hundred Thousand Welcomes’. Following the performance of ‘A Hundred Thousand Welcomes’, the guests were led into the Throne Room, where they were entertained by 2 Harpists and a number of speeches, including a short speech by Lones member Heather Kennedy on the impact Guiding has had on her life. Heather Hallum, Deputy Scottish Chief Commissioner, said: “Girlguiding Scotland was surprised and delighted that the Lord High Commissioner, Lord Wilson, wished to pay tribute to Girlguiding’s 100 year contribution to helping girls unleash their potential, by hosting a special Reception within the Palace of Holyroodhouse. This provided a wonderful opportunity to thank our Centenary volunteers for the outstanding adventures and events they are organising in 2010, in order to give each and every one of our members an unforgettable ‘mountain top’ moment in our Centenary year."
