Only once in every 100 years can we celebrate a Girlguiding Centenary – and 2010 was our very first. We certainly had a lot to celebrate!
Ever since Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scout Movement, was persuaded by his sister in 1910 to introduce a programme for girls and young women, named the Girl Guides, communities throughout Scotland have benefited from having their girl and adult volunteer members participating in activities that have helped them unleash their full potential.

Our Centenary celebrations from 5 September 2009 to 20 October 2010 spanned every community in the country. Our 3,000 units led by 10,000 volunteers made 2010 an unforgettable year for our 50,000 girls, who enjoy Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Senior Section. Thousands of events and activities took place - local, national and international.
Throughout our cities, towns and villages - spanning from Shetland & Orkney to the Western Isles to Dundee to Berwick - our girls and volunteers have enjoyed a programme of service and self-development. Our current membership of nearly 60,000 makes Girlguiding the largest voluntary organisation in Scotland. But we are always looking for new members. If you are an adult looking for exciting new experiences try our volunteer challenge. If you are a girl wanting to join or a parent or guardian wanting to enrol your child, visit our Joining for Girls section.
